The Oscars are in March, but really, February is Oscars month. Every corner of the Internet is full of year-end film lists, awards predictions, pronouncements on which movies deserve them and which don't, and bets on the big winners of the year (and I do mean literal bets). Is the hype for "Sinners" justified, and if so, will it translate into actual wins? If not "Sinners", maybe "One Battle After Another"? If not that, then maybe Franken-Netflix (but probably not)?

Ryan Coogler being excited about aspect rations is my favorite 2025 aesthetic

In any case, Oscar nominations and wins represent not only the best of the best, but also a snapshot of how Hollywood perceives itself. So this month we chose to focus our 4 film recommendations on the people who, for one reason or another, never got the industry's sun rays to shine on them in the form of an Oscar nomination.

Accordingly, this month's theme:

🌟Directors Who Were Never Nominated for an Oscar for Directing, Somehow🌟

Or in short: Oscars That Never Happened.

Our official selection for February

Honorary mentions: directors of "genre movies" who never had a chance at a prize (say, Sergio Leone, or John Carpenter), and local directors (it turns out that Yehuda Barkan has never been nominated for Best Director at the Oscars).

Wishing you a pleasant Oscar season,

The Boris' Film Club team
